Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performs all functions pertaining to the preparation, dispensing and distribution of all medications.

Responsibilities

  • Fill medication orders and outpatient prescriptions to be verified by pharmacist.
  • Assists the pharmacists with the maintenance of the computerized patient profile system and related transactions.
  • Responsible for maintenance of a 24 hour inpatient medication supply.
  • Responsible for preparation of extemporaneous unit dose medications.
  • Verifies integrity of emergency carts throughout the medical center.
  • Communicates with patient-care areas to facilitate expedient medication delivery.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in aseptic techniques and basic IV preparation support.
  • Performs mathematical calculations for medication volumes and metric measurements.
  • Reconciles IV doses and documents discrepancies.
  • Transmits drug order to wholesaler.
  • Accurately stocks pharmacy inventory and rotates stock to ensure adequate supply.
  • Responsible for monitoring expiration dates on all medications.
  • Maintains inventory adhering to contracted products and formulary items.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:           

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Licensure Requirement:      

The Tennessee Board of Pharmacy requires newly hired probationary employees to be licensed by the end of their first 90 days of hire and to maintain their Technician License in active status thereafter.
