Position Summary: 

The Manager of Covenant Health Air Medical is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and daily operations of the Covenant Health Air Medical Program. This includes managing clinical operations, aviation coordination, maintenance oversight, financial performance, staffing, quality assurance, compliance with all regulatory agencies, and ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and compassionate critical care air transport services.

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Direct and oversee the daily operations of multiple air medical bases to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient 24/7 patient transport services. Lead scheduling and timekeeping processes, maintaining compliance and operational readiness.
  • Manage aviation, clinical, and maintenance teams in partnership with the designated aviation provider. Recruit, hire, and evaluate divisional staff. Foster a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and accountability through mentorship, effective conflict resolution, and leadership development.
  • Establish and enforce operational policies, SOPs, and response protocols.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Covenant Health hospitals, EMS agencies, fire departments, and dispatch centers.
  • Ensure readiness for rotor-wing and fixed-wing operations as applicable. 

Clinical Oversight and Quality

  • Partner with clinical leadership to uphold evidence-based guidelines and air medical protocols.
  • Monitor patient care through quality processes and competency assessments.
  • Support ongoing continuing education and professional development for flight crews.
  • Participate in peer review, case audits, and clinical competency assessments.

Safety and Compliance

  • Promote a safety-first culture aligned with federal regulations, accrediting bodies, and organizational standards. Ensure full compliance with these guidelines and a deep commitment to aviation and clinical safety.
  • Conduct safety meetings, audits, and incident reviews.
  • Coordinate with aviation partner safety officers to identify and mitigate risks. 

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets for the division.
  • Monitor expenses, productivity metrics, and revenue cycle performance.
  • Evaluate operational cost-effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities. 

Strategic Development

  • Contribute to strategic planning and business development initiatives. Support expansion of air medical bases and interfacility transport programs.
  • Engage in marketing, outreach, and hospital liaison activities to strengthen referral networks.
  • Collaborate with leadership to integrate air and ground operations with Mobile Integrated Healthcare initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively with executives, field staff, and external partners.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:           

None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a Bachelor’s degree in a directly-related field, such as Healthcare Administration, Emergency Medical Services, or Nursing, from an accredited college or university or a graduate of the Association of Air Medical Services, Multi Transport Leadership Institute.

 

Minimum Experience:         

10 years of experience as a licensed RN or Paramedic (Critical Care preferred), plus at least 5 years in Air Medical Management. Preference may be given to individuals who have experience with a CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems) accredited program, served a large Health System with multi-aircraft operations, transported high risk patients such as ECMO, Balloon Pump, and worked in Air Communications Center management.

 

Licensure Requirement:      

Must have and maintain license as a Critical Care Paramedic or Registered Nurse  in the State of Tennessee (or compact state equivalent). Certification meeting all requirements of the State of TN is required. Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
