Thompson Oncology Group (TOG) is a leader in medical oncology services and provides patients access to all proven, drug-based treatments and the latest clinical trial medicines. Our team of board-certified, fellowship-trained medical oncologists and certified advanced practice providers deliver on-site care and treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormone therapy, at affiliated infusion centers throughout our region.

 

Position Summary:

The Oncology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager provides administrative and clinical leadership for Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) within the oncology service line. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care, operational efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards while fostering professional development and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate APP team operations for oncology services (medical oncology, infusion, symptom management, etc.).
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, recruitment, onboarding, and retention of APPs.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development planning.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and state/federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and administration to optimize workflows and patient care delivery.
  • Identify, develop, and implement strategic APP-related initiatives for the service line.
  • Hold regular meetings with APP Leads to ensure ongoing communication, support, and prompt identification of opportunities.
  • Maintain a portion of clinical practice (patient-facing care) as an APP.
  • Monitor productivity, patient volumes, and quality metrics.
  • Participate in budget planning, cost control, and revenue cycle management.
  • Coordinate APP continuing education and CME requirements.
  • Serve as liaison between APPs and other stakeholders (physicians, nursing, administration).
  • Develop and update practice agreements and delineation of privileges documents as needed.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:           

Master’s degree from an accredited NP or PA program required.

 

Minimum Experience:         

Minimum 5 years clinical experience as an APP.

 

Licensure Requirement:      

Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners           

 

OR

 

Certification by the American Nurses Association or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as an Adult Family or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Certification in Oncology by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) is required.
