Position Summary:

This position is designed to provide supervisory leadership to staff level employees and coordinating activities with the Breast Center Team.  The Breast Center Supervisor is provides assistance to radiologists, physicians, nurses and others in the care of Breast Center patients.  The Breast Center Supervisor is expected to exercise independent judgement and discretion in performing duties listed below.  The Breast Center Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the Breast Center.

Responsibilities

  • Uses clinical expertise and knowledge of supervising a Breast Center such that complex patient management and physician issues are resolved independently. Demonstrates proficiency in complex clinical skills and develops Breast Center protocols with guidance from radiologists/physicians/surgeons, other health care professionals as well as ACR /FDA/other. Initiates and maintains Breast Center Program development.
  • Precepts and cross-trains to other areas as needed/appropriate. Provides in-service as necessary, including training, instruction, and education to imaging technologists, nursing, other related areas, and in the community. Assists in determining Breast Center staff educational needs. Serves as role model to Breast Center staff/others.
  • Efficient coordination of daily work distribution and patient flow, ordering needed equipment and completing bill coding for accounts payable for equipment and contract staff.
  • Assists in decision making for purchase of new equipment, input on room renovation/construction and timeline to completion of installation. Assisting manager with Breast Center capital budget, operating budget and productivity
  • Creates policies and procedures as needed. Adheres to established policies and procedures as appropriate. Establish objectives, quality assurance program, general safety as well as radiation safety standards, and equipment quality control and maintenance. Acquires and maintains ACR accreditation for Breast Center or other accreditation as required or requested. Adhere to established FDA regulatory requirements. Maintain and document all required quality control measures as per FDA/ACR/other. Researches and implements new guidelines as directed by regulatory agencies. Maintains integrity of mammography information system.  
  • Participates in performance appraisal of staff, in hiring process by providing recommendations to the imaging manager, prepares documentation and forms for possible disciplinary actions to director/manager, provides recommendations to manager for commendations, bonuses, or other appropriate forms of recognition for outstanding performance of employees on applicable shift.
  • Makes work assignments and directs work activities. Coordinates staff relief for meals, breaks, and meetings.
  • Participates in orientation of mammography staff and clerical for competency assessment.
  • Performs payroll edits.
  • Assist with Tumor and Multi-Disciplinary Conferences Schedules. Obtains and documents patient audits to include pathology and correlation of breast imaging/other imaging studies.
  • Performs all duties of Mammography Radiology Technologist. Performs routine screening/diagnostic/ minimally invasive breast imaging procedures through technical expertise in equipment use, positioning and procedure protocols.
  • Follows the Joint Commission procedures regarding medication preparation/usage on patient for minimally invasive breast procedures.
  • Obtains and documents pertinent clinical information and technical findings for review by physician for order clarification and follow-through.
  • Follows established processes for supply charging, stock maintenance and vendor ordering.
  • Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of an Accredited Breast Center and related equipment to produce high quality Breast Imaging.
  • Selects appropriate associated equipment/data manipulation to achieve desired results with factors influencing data acquisition. Technically proficient in the operation and quality control aspects of scanning and image recording equipment specific to the assigned work area.
  • Displays independent work skills by capably taking physician orders to completion to include correct patient transport, required clerical skills, physician defined scanning parameters, acquisition, filming and physician interpretation.
  • Practices aseptic/sterile technique and applies universal precautions as appropriate. Applies appropriate infection prevention techniques and processes.
  • Identifies and screens patient. Obtains patient history, completes and verifies accurate consents, informed consent and/or permits as needed.
  • Provides patient instructions/education to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety during exams. Positions patients for mammography/breast biopsies/other breast imaging using immobilization and protective equipment to comply with regulations while applying principles of ALARA to minimize risk to patient, self and others.
  • Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting the patient’s ability, safety and comfort. Provides for psychological and physical needs of patients for Breast procedures. Proficient in patient assessment and monitoring.
  • Proficient in required data entry, record maintenance and statistical data. Technically proficient in the operation and quality control aspects of scanning and image recording equipment specific to the assigned work area. Maintains patient’s confidential records, reports and files, following established HIPAA guidelines.
  • Provides patients with procedural explanation or written documentation of procedure. Responds appropriately and timely to patients, physicians and other customer needs. Coordinates the smooth transition of patients throughout the facility and other campus locations.
  • Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Stays current in Basic Life Support (BLS) and performs BLS as needed.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:          

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

 

Minimum Experience:         

One (1) year of mammography experience required

 

Licensure Requirement:      

ARRT (R) and ARRT (M) required. State licensure in accordance with Tennessee guidelines.
