Neuroscience Unit
This is a 34 bed Neuroscience Unit that provides specialized care for patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. The unit cares for a diverse patient population including stroke (ischemic and hemorrhagic), seizure disorders, traumatic brain injury, brain and spinal tumors, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, neuromuscular disorder, post-operative neurosurgery patient, and spine surgery patients.
As a comprehensive stroke center, this unit is one of two that evaluates stroke patients in this hospital. We emphasize frequent neurological assessments and evidence-based practices. Nurses work closely with neurology and neurosurgery providers, occupational, speech, and physical therapists and case management to deliver patient centered care. The unit participates in stroke quality measures, performance improvement projects, and ongoing education aligned with national stroke guidelines. Nursing staff are integral members of a highly skilled, multidisciplinary stroke team committed to exceptional patient outcomes.
Position Summary:
Functions as a direct patient caregiver performing tasks to assist registered nurses. Performs hands-on care, assistance with ADL’s and specified technical tasks for a group of patients under the supervision of the Team Leader.
Minimum Education:
None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.
