The Lab at LeConte Medical Center is a rewarding place to work. The skilled team of Sr. Lab Assistants, Lab Assistants, MTs, and MLTs work together to provide all laboratory services to LeConte patients in a timely manner. In this department, the staff is focused and goal-driven to provide accurate and sufficient results for the people they serve.

 

Position Summary: 

Direct supervision of phlebotomy and specimen processing functions and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates the functions of assigned sections to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Assures integrity of patient specimens, equipment performance and maintenance.
  • Monitors section functions; prepares related reports and charts.
  • Designs training programs for assigned sections. Conducts training in phlebotomy and specimen processing functions.
  • Directly supervises laboratory staff in assigned sections.
  • Consults regularly with the manager and testing personnel as appropriate.
  • Deals with service issues internally and externally in a timely manner.
  • Interacts with appropriate contact in IS for electronic orders and report issues between lab and clients.
  • Prepares procedures for assigned sections. Maintains section procedure manuals.
  • Maintains adequate supplies for assigned sections. Tracks utilization of supplies and services to accounts.
  • Assists in replying to delayed claims.
  • Collects/processes specimens as necessary using established techniques for the various age groups assigned.
  • Monitors safety and infection control aspects for assigned sections.
  • Develop knowledge of internet physician products to coordinating installation, training and  usage to physician offices.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Knowledgeable of fee schedules and may perform contract billing. Handles issues and adjustments to client billing.

Qualifications

Minimum Education           

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

 

Minimum Experience          

A minimum of five (5) years of phlebotomy and specimen processing experience is required with a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.  Must possess knowledge obtained by formal education, previous experience or on the job training of proper specimen collection and processing techniques, including patient/specimen identification, proper tubes, anticoagulants or preservatives. 

 

Licensure Requirement       

Certification by NCA, ASCP or comparable institution is desirable.
