Position Summary:

Responsible for creating and maintaining policies & procedures, development and monitoring of patient quality/safety processes resulting in  overall quality of nursing care provided by the nursing staff. Works autonomously and confidentially. Advanced computer skills are a necessity. Responsible for identifying staff needs and foster the concept of patient centered care along with Managers and Educators.The primary role for this position will be Sepsis Coordinator, responsible for coordinating and improving sepsis care within the organization. This position is crucial in ensuring that the hospital adheres to the SEP-1 guidelines, which are essential for improving patient outcomes related to sepsis. The Sepsis Coordinator is responsible for a variety of tasks including chart and data abstraction, analysis and reporting, coordination of departmental functions, and processing improvement initiatives. They will also engage in physician and staff education to enhance understanding and compliance with sepsis protocols. The coordinator must embody multiple roles: clinician, leader, liaison, educator, researcher, consultant, and quality improvement specialist, all aimed at driving improvements in sepsis care and outcomes. They will collaborate with physicians, managers, and staff to maximize the quality and value of sepsis clinical care through accountability and the implementation of process improvements. This role requires strong problem-solving and communication skills to identify and present performance improvement opportunities.
This position will also be responsible for assisting with other hospital quality functions, such as monitoring and reporting data, and quality/peer review.
Recent hospital experience preferred, Emergency Department experience and sepsis knowledge strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards.
  • Participates in organization and functions of nursing and hospital organizations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with all administrative, nursing, medical and paramedical personnel.
  • Ability to coordinate, direct and motivate personnel under his/her supervision.
  • Demonstrate initiative, insight and judgment in making decisions.
  • Provide leadership in solving problems.
  • Assure maintenance of adequate records of patients and evaluation of adequacy of hospital environment and individual needs.
  • Assist in planning and implementing educational programs for all levels.
  • Participates in the development and control of the budget for the department.
  • Develop and maintain a staffing plan which promotes utilization of all personnel.
  • Participates in monthly meetings and other committees as required.
  • Acts as a consultant to hospital nursing staff and provides in-service education upon request.
  • Provides leadership and direction to staff, and acts as a resource person in all aspects of planning and implementation.
  • Evaluates staff performance according to hospital and nursing guidelines.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned and special projects as identified by nursing administration.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Education:         

 None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

 

Minimum Experience:        

 Five (5) years of experience in nursing.  Two (2) years previous supervisory experience required.

 

Licensure Requirement:   

  Must have current Tennessee nursing license.
