Position Summary:

Provides spiritual counseling and guidance to patients, families, and staff and performs or arranges religious services to meet patient needs.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with hospital staff regarding hospital ministry. Collaborates with members of the hospital care team in identifying and resolving problems. Acts as a liaison between patient, family, and hospital staff during periods of crisis, e.g. illness, dying, lengthy or difficult surgery.
  • Evaluates patient needs for spiritual guidance and counseling and initiates or recommends individual programs and services to meet those needs.
  • Leads various workshops and retreats for staff as identified by their needs.
  • Conducts appropriate chapel services.
  • Works with manager and committee regarding utilization of resources to assist patient, family, and/or staff in times of need.
  • Cultivates relationships with community churches and clergy. Serves as an advocate for Covenant Health in the community.
  • Assists with recruitment and proctoring Clinical Pastoral Education student chaplains.
  • Facilitates training for area clergy.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Master of Divinity/Theology

 

Minimum Experience:         

Three (3) years’ experience in pastoral ministry, with one (1) year in health care ministry.

 

Licensure Requirement:      

Board Certified by professional chaplaincy organization or must be certification eligible.
