Position Summary:

The Clinical Research Support Assistant (CRSA) functions as direct support in clinical research performing tasks to assist lead researchers. The CRSA provides support to the lead researchers during clinical trials for new drugs, treatments, and medical devices. The CRSA assists in various aspects of the conduct of clinical research trials across multiple Covenant Health facilities. The CRSA is responsible for identifying subjects or clinical trials, collecting data, evaluating results, and taking notes on activities. The CRSA ensures that every clinical trial follows the standard operating procedures and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Contributed to participant recruitment with knowledge of basic eligibility criteria of all available studies, utilizing Covenant Health electronic medical record and physician referrals to pre-screen potential participants for eligibility, and routing to appropriate research staff for further consideration.
  • Collect data and enter the data into source documents, case report forms, and/or electronic data bases.
  • Complete the required CITI training and protocol specific training prior to conducting any research tasks.
  • Request review and approval from the Covenant Health Institutional Review Board (CH IRB) prior to engaging in research conduct.
  • Obtains participant health records or other medical source documents from health care providers both within and outside of Covenant Health. Routes HIPAA appropriate medical records release information as necessary to collect records.
  • Assists in scheduling participant appointments, contacts participants as needed via approved methods regarding protocol requirements, scheduling, or information dissemination.
  • Assists in data management by reporting source data to research sponsor, as requested by the lead researcher.
  • Answers multi-telephone line, screens, and routes call, provides information, takes messages and retrieves voice messages.
  • Performs basic administrative functions (i.e., processes mail, maintains stock of office supplies).
  • Organizes research chart, files source documents, and assists in filing regulatory documents as needed.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:           

None specified; this is an internship for high school and college students 16 years of age or older who are enrolled in healthcare courses and intending to pursue a career in healthcare.

 

Minimum Experience:         

Medical terminology a plus. Must be able to operate computer and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly, and perform basic arithmetic computation. Must successfully complete CITI Training and Covenant Health’s orientation.

None

 

Restrictions due to Age (for minors under 18):

  • Cannot load, unload, or use the compactor or baler.
  • Cannot use any type of power-driven hoisting apparatus.
  • Cannot use personal or company vehicle to make any type of deliveries or run errands while on or off the clock.
  • Sitter – Cannot sit for behavioral health or suicidal patients.
  • Unable to work in the Radiation department (only allowed to transport patients).
  • Unable to work during school hours and must be clocked out and off property by 10pm
