Our door-to-balloon times for heart attack patients are below the national average, and our hip fracture center offers advanced diagnosis, surgery and recovery procedures for hip patients.
Department Description:
At Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, we understand that patients in our critical care area need specialized care – not only because they are very sick, but also because their cardiovascular and surgical needs are unique.
We have opened three separate intensive care units – each designed to provide excellent care based on patient’s needs. CVICU is located on the fourth floor in the Center for Advance Medicine (CAM) building adjacent to the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center main hospital.
We are a 24-bed department comprised of 12 CVICU and 12 CV Stepdown beds but all rooms can be converted to ICU if the need arises. We specialize and treat a wide range of disease processes including: Cardiac & thoracic surgeries, STEMI, Cardiogenic shock including use of Impella left and right ventricular assist devices, complex abdominal surgeries such as Whipple or Esophagectomies, CRRT, etc. This unit is the designated unit for high-risk OB or post-partum patients also. Nurse: patient ratios are 2:1 ICU and 3:1 Stepdown with a free shift leader to assist the nurses with care.
We work 12- hour shifts, three shifts /week, three weekends per 6 week schedule. Team members utilize a self-scheduling software.

Minimum Education:
None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.
