Department Assistant, Labor & Delivery
Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift
Typically Monday-Friday 8 hour days, with weekends and holidays off, but there is some flexibility schedule. No on-call required.

Labor and Delivery
This is a 24 bed LDRP with a level I nursery. This means the patients labor, deliver, recovery, and postpartum care will be in the same room. A level I nursery is for well babies only. Infants needing IV placement, extended assistance with oxygenation, etc., are transferred to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. We have a nurse clinician from ETCH on staff 24 hours a day to assist with any infant complications that may arise. We have 12 OB/GYNs at Parkwest who assist their patients with delivery. We are a growing department with an average of 1900 annual deliveries.
Position Summary:
Performs a full range of secretarial and administrative duties for a specific department or unit. Requires clerical training or experience and some knowledge of the unit's operational procedures. May perform departmental support functions such as processing payroll, enter data into information systems, or other duties similar in nature. Primary responsibility is management of the Birth Certificate program, and additional duties will include support of the department with ordering supplies, assisting with payroll, and review of patient charges.

Minimum Education:
None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.
Minimum Experience:
One (1) to two (2) years clerical/administrative experience. Excellent computer skills and experience with customer service (will meet with new families on a daily basis).
Licensure Requirement:
None. Must be able to get Notary within 6 months of hire (cost is covered by hospital).
