Maintenance Worker, Plant Engineering

Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Variable Shifts

Job Objectives:

Provide general maintenance of Methodist Medical Center buildings, grounds and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists mechanics and other maintenance workers in completing their tasks such as performing maintenance and/or repairs on the following systems and/or equipment: electrical, mechanical, plumbing, air conditioning, heating, batteries, boilers, water treatment, and sheet metal.
  • Performs pick up and delivery of supplies, blood and/or equipment, using department truck.
  • Inspects fire extinguishers.
  • Installs/removes television sets in patient rooms; replaces television speakers as necessary.
  • Inspects lights in hospital buildings on a weekly basis and replaces them if necessary.
  • Performs plumbing duties as assigned.
  • Performs any unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Performs boiler attendant duties as necessary (when vacancies are created by absenteeism or vacations).
  • Paint and redecorate walls, woodwork, furniture and fixtures inside Methodist Medical Center buildings; perform any other assigned paint jobs on hospital properties (parking lots, posts, signs, etc.) This includes preparation of various surfaces for painting.
  • Local travel required.
  • NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Other duties as assigned.
  • HEALTH/SAFETY/COMPETENCE: Cannot pose a direct threat to health or safety of self or others.  Must provide safe, efficient, competent care to customer or patient population assigned.  Must demonstrate competency of the unit specific functions described in the performance continuum and/or skill lists.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: 

Must be a high school graduate (or have GED, unless employed in this position prior to either being a requirement); must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly, perform simple mathematic calculations, and follow oral and written instructions as required.  Should be familiar with building maintenance techniques and with work and limitations of various crafts involved in building maintenance.  Must have the ability to:  mix and blend paints in order to obtain desirable colors; estimate time and cost involved in work orders; choose types of paint necessary for various surfaces; direct placing and moving of scaffolding; make decorative designs with transfers and stencils; and apply paint by several methods.  Must be capable of maintaining concentration with attention to detail for prolonged periods of time, working under emergency and/or stressful conditions. 

 

EXPERIENCE: 

General maintenance experience is preferred. Mechanical skills and experience with on-the-job training is sufficient for individuals in this position to learn normal routine.

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D and state mandated minimum insurance coverage.  Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
