Position Summary:

Provides assistance to the cardiologist or cardiac surgeon in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization and angiography procedures, measuring cardiovascular parameters such as cardiac output, blood flow velocity, cardiovascular dynamics, cardiac electrophysiology parameters, intracardiac shunt detection, valve flow/valve area determinations, intracardiac pressure measurements, oximetry determination, cineangiocardiography, and the measurement and calculation of cardiac function indices. The technologist assists in all phases of catheterization procedure including insertion of the catheter, operation of various electronic instruments, and calculation of hemodynamic data.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in the orientation and training of new employees and students.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in complex clinical skills to include: IABP, stents, DCA, complex PTCA's, Alblations and Pacemakers.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in cardiac anatomy and physiology, correlating pressure wave forms and rhythm analysis.
  • Proficient in patient assessment, monitoring, and sterile technique as required.
  • Assists in the maintenance and effective use of all equipment and supplies in the clinical areas.
  • Maintains patients’ confidential records, reports, and files.
  • Responds appropriately and timely to patients, physicians, and other customers’ needs.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the entire life span.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

High School graduate supplemented by coursework in science, anatomy and physiology. Candidates must have completed one of the following programs:

  • A Cardiovascular Technology program accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting body,
  • A formalized on-the-job cardiac catheterization  training program consisting of at least 1,040 combined hours (6 months) of classroom and practical laboratory work,
  • Completion of an accredited education program such as cardiovascular technology, surgical technology, emergency medical technology, etc.

Must have upon hire and maintain BLS (and ACLS upon hire or within six (6) months).


Minimum Experience:

Six (6) months of experience in a health related field.


Licensure Requirement:

Hold a valid TN EMT (Basic, Advanced, or Licensed Paramedic in the state of TN) or CST license or meet one of the education requirements referenced above.
