Service Coordinator, GI Lab- Endoscopy

Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

On call one night/week and about every 6th weekend, with rotating holiday call. Must be within a 30 minute drive to the hospital for call coverage.

 

 

The Endoscopy Lab at Fort Sanders Regional is a fast-paced, team focused environment that has four endoscopy suites and a bronchoscopy suite. It serves as an outpatient ambulatory surgery center and accommodates inpatient add-on procedures.

 

Procedures performed include, but aren’t limited to colonoscopies, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), peg tube placement, pill cam studies, bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), and Super Dimension Navigation. Our team consists of RNs, CSTs, CNAs, and a departmental assistant.

 

Nursing responsibilities rotate within the department, and include pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care with occasional scope room coverage as needed. Nurses are trained to prepare patients for procedures, assist the physicians with the procedures, electronically document the cases, handle specimens, educate patients for home care, and ensure patients meet criteria prior to discharge. Our department is open Monday-Friday 6a-5:30p with holiday, after hours, and weekend call coverage. Call requirements for CSTs and RNs is one night per week and every 6th weekend, with rotating holiday coverage.

 

We are looking for team focused RNs who are highly motivated with critical thinking skills, computer proficiency, detail oriented, and who are willing to put their patients first.

 

Position Summary: Provides leadership and oversight for specialty area.  Acts as a resource for the specialty area.

Responsibilities

  • Develops service goals.
  • Responds to specialty/emergency/needs as needed.
  • Functions as a resource person and team leader.
  • Demonstrates competence in critical skills to include delivery of care appropriate to the age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Evaluates service inventory and adjusts.
  • Orders specialty items.
  • Serves as liaison with medical staff and other customers.
  • Serves as expert, resource, and consultant for specialty area.
  • Coordinates maintenance of service equipment.
  • Maintains proficiency for specialty area.
  • Researches alternatives for usage of equipment/instruments.
  • Provides feedback (verbal and written) on staff performance.
  • Refers personnel conflict management to supervisor, manager, or director.
  • Develops and implements educational training programs for personnel.
  • Assumes departmental charge responsibilities as needed (weekends, 3-11, holidays, etc.).
  • Recommends staff assignments to provide optimal customer satisfaction.
  • Identifies learning needs with staff.
  • Monitors schedule in advance to prevent conflicts and coordinates needs.
  • Problem solves and trouble shoots specialty conflicts (equipment, instrumentation, etc.).
  • Researches and submits proposed budget purchase items each year and as needed.
  • Maintains/updates specialty charges.
  • Maintains, develops, and updates specialty surgeon preference cards.
  • Develops specialty instrumentation trays and procedural packs.
  • Meets with staff monthly to discuss staff needs, goals and problems as associated with the services.
  • Provides at least eight (8) credit hours of in-service per year.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: 

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

 

Minimum Experience:

Minimum of four (4) years professional experience. Previous GI and leadership experience preferred.

 

Licensure Requirement:

Valid Tennessee RN license or current and active national Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification established by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
