Position Summary:

The Registered Neurophysiology Technologist performs advanced testing in EEGs, evoked potential studies, and nerve conduction studies. Assists in the training of employees and supervision of procedures.  Assists in tasks related to department operations.  Performs routine maintenance and repairs on complex electronic recorders.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for testing procedures by gathering all necessary supplies and set up and calibrate all equipment appropriately.
  • Accurately record electrical impulses from the brain and appropriate body parameters.
  • Abstract relevant information from the patient's clinical record and obtain additional information by questioning.
  • Possess advance knowledge of calibration, use of and interface of all ancillary equipment.
  • Possess advance knowledge of electrophysiologic wave forms and frequencies.
  • Possess advance knowledge of basic neuro anatomy and physiology.
  • Possess advance understanding of activation procedures and responses anticipated.
  • Perform general maintenance procedures, as well as troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Possess advance understanding of equipment and how it works.
  • Possess a good knowledge of related disorders and disease, their symptoms and manifestations, as well as clinical correlation and significance.
  • Possess advance knowledge of treatment options of various disorders and disease.
  •  Possess advance knowledge of relevant medications and their effects.
  • Possess knowledge of charging patients and processing paperwork.
  • Registration or certification in at least one modality of neurodiagnostic through national registering boards (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists, ABRET; American Society of Electrodiagnostic Technologists, ASET; or the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists, AAET.)
  • Maintain lab stock and order supplies when needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested or required.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Provides direction to and participates in training of other technical personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:           

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

 

Minimum Experience:         

One (1) year of Electroneurodiagnostics experience and competency in at least three (3) electroneurodiagnostic modalities.

 

Licensure Requirements: 

Current CPR certification. Registration or certification in at least one (1) modality from ABRET, ASET, or AAET is required. Registry or certification must be maintained.
