Senior Laboratory Assistant, General Laboratory
Full Time, 80 Hours per pay period, Shifts vary
Rotating Holidays and every fifth weekend. Evening Shift 14:15-22:45
Parkwest Medical Center Laboratory mission is to provide accurate test results for all customers in a minimum amount of time while maintaining safe practices. We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days per week with a procedure volume of greater than 800,000 tests annually. Shifts are 8 hours a day: Days 6 a.m. -2:30 p.m., Evening 2:30 p.m. -11 p.m. and Nights 11 p.m. -7 a.m. Parkwest laboratory services include: immunohematology, routine and special chemistry, therapeutic drug testing, drugs-of abuse testing, serology, coagulation, hematology, urinalysis, microbiology, parasitology, mycobacterium and molecular testing. Pathology services are provided by contract.
Laboratory staffing is comprised of the following: Laboratory Assistants, Technical Specialists, Medical Technologist/Technicians, Point of Care Coordinator, Supervisor of Support Services, and Pathologist. All testing staff are licensed in the State of Tennessee and are accredited by U.S. Department of Education. The laboratory is located on the 1st floor of the Montvue Building and connected to all nursing units and ancillary departments via pneumatic tube system. Our outpatient phlebotomy station is located in the main lobby of the Riverstone tower in the Outpatient Center.
Position Summary:
An employee in this position must be able to perform at an advanced level in the following areas: collection and proper handling of venous and capillary specimens as appropriate; registration of outpatients in a timely, safe, and courteous manner; registration of patients, Lab contracts, and specimens ensuring that all registration data is accurate and complete; prepares, checks for accuracy, and implements charting of Laboratory, Pathology, and Imaging reports as needed. Must be able to perform duties of Lab Assistant.

Minimum Education:
None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill, and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.

Licensure Requirement:
Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
