Travel required to all TOG/TCSC centers as needed.

Thompson Oncology Group (TOG) is a leader in medical oncology services and provides patients access to all proven, drug-based treatments and the latest clinical trial medicines. Our team of board-certified, fellowship-trained medical oncologists and certified advanced practice providers deliver on-site care and treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormone therapy, at affiliated infusion centers throughout our region.

 

Position Summary:

The Director of Medical Oncology Operations for Thompson Cancer Survival Center (TCSC) and Thompson Oncology Group (TOG) is accountable for the financial oversight and operational direction for all Thompson Cancer medical oncology clinic and infusion center registration operations.  This Director leads operational planning of the departmental objectives in alignment with the strategic goals of the cancer program. Responsible for developing, maintaining, and refining processes to ensure efficient operations from arrival to discharge. This position is supported by and directly manages Clinic Operations Managers for each site. The Director of Medical Oncology Operations coordinates significantly with the Directors of Pharmacy, Clinical Research, Business Development, and Quality & Safety as well as nursing leaders across the cancer program. This position reports directly to the VP of Medical Oncology and serves as an integral member of the Medical Oncology leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures timely, quality, and customer focused delivery of care to all patients at all TOG clinics and TCSC managed infusion centers.
  • Approaches process improvement and policy and procedures from a customer focused perspective; shares accountability for patient experience scores with providers and nursing leaders.
  • Collaborates with internal and external providers, departments and services to ensure efficient, coordinated, customer focused services (imaging, interventional radiology, etc).
  • Accountable for communicating expectations and monitoring performance of Medical Oncology sites regarding workflows, operational procedures, and policy
  • Accountable for tracking and improving key performance indicators for TOG clinics including designated quality metrics, volumes, no-show rates, and patient experience.
  • Maintains trusting, engaged relationships with all TOG providers and acts as an advocate for TOG physicians when assisting in budgeting and strategic decision making.
  • Meets with providers, clinic leaders, and staff according to Senior Leadership guidance and as needed.
  • Participates in establishing goals and objectives for oncology services across the continuum.
  • Develops an infrastructure to support clinical service excellence including the design of systems, development of policies and procedures and the development of staff.
  • Monitors results and facilitates action planning when opportunity to improve is determined.
  • Reviews monthly operating reports to ensure integrity and control of expenses, as well as formulating a strong understanding of changes in patient volume.
  • Assures achievement of service, quality, financial and patient satisfaction goals in areas of responsibility.
  • Oversees monthly physician and advanced practice provider (APP) clinic and call schedules, ensures proper and thorough accounting of call throughout the year.
  • Oversees and troubleshoots any issues related to practice answering service and other centralized resources for all TOG clinics.
  • Oversees the onboarding/orientation of new providers hired into the practice, to include both physicians and advanced practice providers.
  • Works with the medical staff officers in the hospitals to ensure proper credentialing of TOG providers and any locums providers utilized for coverage gaps.
  • Regularly rounds at TOG clinic and TCSC managed infusion centers to engage, encourage, and learn from staff and providers.
  • Local travel required.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree Healthcare Management, or Business preferred.

 

Minimum Experience:

Five (5) years’ experience in leadership and three (3) years in an ambulatory healthcare specialty setting.

 

Licensure Requirement:

Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
