Cardiac Diagnostics:

The Cardiac Diagnostics Department is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of highly trained staff (RNs and cardiac sonographers) and physicians that provides comprehensive quality of care for individuals requiring noninvasive cardiac procedures including:

  • Stress testing
  • Echocardiograms
  • Transesophageal echocardiograms
  • Tilt table studies
  • Cardioversions
  • Holter monitoring
  • Electrocardiograms

Position Summary:

The candidate will work in a Covenant Health System Cardiac Diagnostics Department utilizing state of the art technology to assist our cardiologists in diagnosing congenital, structural, and disease-process cardiac issues. The candidate will perform procedures under the direct supervision of a registered Cardiac Sonographer, who is registered through the ARDMS or CCI, to IAC standards and guidelines during Transthoracic Echocardiograms. This position is for senior, well-advanced cardiac sonography students who exceeds expectations in the role of cardiac sonography.

Responsibilities

  • Understands cross-sectional human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology to obtain optimal studies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in all facets of performing optimal studies to include pertinent clinical history, related diagnostic procedures, ultrasound physics, normal anatomy, and pathological variants. Also demonstrates competent performance of critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to age-specific patient needs.
  • Assists in the maintenance of equipment, supplies and imaging areas.
  • Able to perform ultrasound testing on patients by utilizing 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, M-mode, spectral Doppler, color flow Doppler, speckle tracking, and other post-processing functionality.
  • Performs as a liaison between patients, physicians, and other members of the support team. Provides patients and families with procedure explanation and/or written documentation of procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in production, use, recognition and analysis of images and patterns used for patient diagnosis and treatment. Able to assist completing preliminary reports including a range of measurements and motion to assist the physician with test results.
  • Able to develop and maintain good working relationships both inter- and intra-departmentally; to foster good customer relations, to maintain open lines of communication with colleagues, providers, and patients, and to observe the Covenant Health Mission and Values.
  • Participates in continuing education for optimal patient care, public education and enhanced knowledge and technical competence.
  • Able to perform correct drug, procedure and supply charging, stock maintenance and vendor ordering procedure.
  • Efficiently coordinates daily work distribution and patient flow.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:           

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

 

Minimum Experience:         

None specified. Preference may be given to individuals with experience as a Cardiac Sonographer in a hospital setting.

 

Licensure Requirement:      

Must be in the process of obtaining a CCI, ARRT, or ARDMS Registry through an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program. American Heart Association BLS prior to hire.
