Position Summary:

Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all aspects of oncology pharmacy operations within the ambulatory infusion center setting. Ensures high-quality, safe, and cost effective medication management for oncology patients while supporting compliance, staff development, regulatory preparedness, and clinical excellence. Responsible for all clinical pharmacy activities within oncology outpatient settings, including all satellite locations of LeConte Medical Center and Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. These activities include, but are not limited to, the provision of pharmaceutical care to defined patient populations, evaluation of chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens, and maintenance of a strong working relationship with Oncologists and senior leaders.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for outpatient oncology pharmacy operations, clinical services, and staff performance.
  • Ensures oncology pharmacy and infusion center compliance with all regulatory agency rules/regulations including USP, EPA, OSHA, State Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, and CMS. Ensures safe and appropriate policies are developed, implemented, and maintained.
  • Leads initiatives to improve quality, safety, patient experience, and operational efficiency across all pharmacy-led processes. Participates or appropriately delegates participation in multi-disciplinary committees as appropriate as the Oncology pharmacy leader.
  • Develops, initiates, and maintains oncology clinical pathways and protocols. Serves as the subject-matter expert for oncology pharmacy practice, industry trends, and emerging therapies.
  • Assists pharmacy leadership with recruitment, mentorship, and supervision of pharmacists and technicians within the oncology pharmacy service line.
  • Develops and manages the oncology pharmacy budget, including drug acquisition, labor, and operational
  • Oversees billing workflows, prior authorization processes, charge capture, and compliance with payer requirements.
  • Assists in the planning and development of new oncology infusion satellite locations and in the development and implementation of new pharmacy services and programs.
  • Able to perform all position accountabilities and performance criteria of the Oncology Pharmacist.
  • Assists with coordination of oncology drug therapy for the inpatient pharmacy service lines when appropriate.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:                      

Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree

 

Minimum Experience:                     

Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 residency plus three (3) years of clinical pharmacist experience OR  five (5) years of clinical pharmacist experience in absence of PGY-1 residency required.  Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Residency and/or BCOP certification preferred.

 

Licensure Requirement:                  

Must have and maintain Tennessee state pharmacy license
