3 Dogwood, Orthopedic-Neuro, Bariatric:

Parkwest’s 3 Dogwood is a 36-bed unit specializing in Orthopedic Joint/Spine and Bariatrics.  It is located inside our most recent expansion, the Dogwood Tower, which opened in December 2019. 3 Dogwood is a fast-paced unit with an average stay of 23 hours or less for the Joint and Bariatric patients.

 

A typical day on this unit may include pain management and drain monitoring to mobilizing a patient day-of surgery and sending them home! Parkwest’s orthopedic and spine program have been recognized both nationally and regionally for excellent outcomes and outstanding quality. The most engaging part about 3 Dogwood is the teamwork. Nurses on our orthopedic-spine, bariatric unit are members of an integral team of health professionals including RNs, LPNs, SNAs, CNAs, HUCs, PTs, OTs and Clinical Dietitians.  As a unit, they all work very closely together to make the patients their number one focus and to provide excellent patient care and outcomes.

 

We utilize a preferred self-scheduling model that covers a six-week period to allow for flexibility. Staff rotate every other major holiday and weekend. 3 Dogwood welcome’s staff members of varying experiences, from new graduates to the experienced healthcare professional. Position Summary:

Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit; coordinates care planning with other disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Correlates patient history and support systems within hospital care/nursing home care.
  • Assesses needs of patient and family.
  • Develops and initiates plan of care, involving patient and family.
  • Recommends interventions.
  • Evaluates plan of care.
  • Clinical expertise and knowledge is such that individual can resolve complex patient/management/physician problems without supervision.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Leads process improvement initiatives in their own unit or participate in facility team.
  • Precepts new employees/students or attends formal preceptor workshop and is willing to precept. Reviews clinical performance of preceptee with unit leader or clinical instructor.
  • Provides four contact hours of educational activities, excluding basic patient education.
  • Contributes to development and evaluation of unit orientation program.
  • Supervises LPNs, Nursing Assistants, HUCs, Techs, and sitters.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:           

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

 

Minimum Experience:         

Minimum of three (3) years professional experience.

 

Licensure Requirement:      

Must have and maintain Tennessee State RN licensure. CPR required
