Neuroscience Nurse Practitioner, Knoxville Neurology Specialists

Full time, 80 hours per pay period, Day shift

Position Summary:

To provide excellence in the specialized care of stroke patients, demonstrates core competencies of advanced practice, possess complex decision making skills, and cultivate the growth and development of Fort Sanders Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain established departmental polices and procedures, objectives, quality assurance and program safety standards.
  • Demonstrates highly effective skills in oral and written communication. 
  • Provides evidence based acute stroke assessment and demonstrates the understanding of appropriate therapeutic procedures, treatments, and interventions including medications.
  • Demonstrates competency and excellence within the scope of evidenced based clinical practices in acute stroke center. 
  • Demonstrates competency and excellence within the scope of evidenced based clinical practice guidelines in acute stroke care. 
  • Identifies potential adverse outcomes and implements proactive strategies to decrease patient risk. 
  • Develops and delivers acute stroke education for the nursing staff and other health professionals to facilitate improved patient outcomes. 
  • Assists, develops, and implements patient stroke education. 
  • Actively engages in community health information for acute stroke interventions, referrals, and coordination of care. 
  • Collects data to track stroke complications and communicates regularly with the stroke team and administration on patient outcomes and program success. 
  • Contributes to quality improvement and best practice activities that evaluate current practices in the treatment of acute stroke patients.
  • Recognizes limits to own scope of practice and consults appropriately. 
  • Demonstrates characteristics of effective collaboration among the members of the stroke team and administration. 
  • Effectively utilizes resources to improve the quality of acute stroke care. 
  • Assists and supports research of IRB approved stroke research. 
  • Actively participates and maintains own professional development and competence through seminars, workshop and professional affiliations. 
  • Demonstrates ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively. 
  • Develops capacity for critical reflection. 
  • Collaborates with medical director to review evidence based literature and develop and revise stroke treatment protocols. 
  • Completes continuing education on cerebrovascular disease, including acute stroke care to meet the requirements for participating on the Core Stroke Team. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority

 

Minimum Experience:

Three (3) years of clinical experience preferred.

 

Licensure Requirement:

Current Tennessee Registered Nurse License. Current Tennessee Advanced Practice Nurse license.  Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN ) preferred. CPR required.
