Human Resources Specialist

Full-Time, 80 hours per pay period, Day shift

 

Covenant Medical Group is Covenant Health’s employed and managed medical practice organization, with more than 300 top Physicians and providers spanning the continuum of care in 20 cities throughout East Tennessee. Specialties include cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiovascular surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, infectious disease, neurology, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology, occupational medicine, orthopedic surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, primary care, pulmonology, reproductive medicine, rheumatology, sleep medicine and urology.

 

Position Summary:

This role will have a heavy focus on retention strategies for Covenant Medical Group and Covenant HomeCare/Hospice. The candidate should possess a dynamic personality with the ability to engage all levels of staff and leaders to create support for the retention strategies. Adaptability will be key to the success in a fast pace and ever changing environment that supports ~1,200 employees. Previous retention focus will be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Advises managers/supervisors in resolving employee relations problems, disciplinary actions, and performance management issues. Serves as liaison between employees and leadership to resolve employee relations issues. 
  • Acts as special projects coordinator and leader on various HR projects as needed. 
  • Conducts training programs related to employee relations issues such as performance evaluation, disciplinary program, sexual harassment, etc. 
  • Participates in investigations and may draft responses to EEO or Tennessee Human Rights Commission charges. 
  • Conducts Integrity/Compliance investigations and reports findings. 
  • Responds to Tennessee Department of Employment Security Claims and represents Covenant Health on appeals. 
  • Conducts audit follow up regarding findings from Compensation, HRIS or Payroll audits. 
  • Evaluates and participates in preparing Human Resources for Joint Commission compliance (including development of annual report of competency and follow-up throughout the year to ensure that competency issues identified through the performance appraisal process are addressed). 
  • Ensures completion of Performance Evaluations and distributes notifications to managers regarding merit increase process and merit amounts. 
  • Conducts HR portion of new employee orientation program and may participate in presentation of Employee Education Day. 
  • Participates in analysis and development of human resource policies and procedures. 
  • Works closely with Workers Compensation and managers to identify light duty work, monitoring restrictions and accommodations.
  • Drafts and delivers separation agreements. 
  • Coordinates employee recognition programs. 
  • Assists in submittal of Authorization to Hires. 
  • Local travel required. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience combined with professional HR certification.

 

Minimum Experience:

Requires a minimum of five (5) years experience in human resources functioning in an HR Generalist capacity and includes direct responsibility/involvement in employee relations functions. Knowledge of legal issue related to employee relations.  Computer skills required.

 

Licensure Requirement:

HR certification preferred. Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
