Non-Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Technologist

Department: Cath Lab

Full-time, 72 - 80 hours per 2 week pay period

Day Shift plus Call.

Position Summary:

Provide assistance to the cardiologist or cardiac surgeon in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization and angiography procedures, measuring cardiovascular parameters such as cardiac output, blood flow velocity, cardiovascular dynamics, cardiac electrophysiology parameters, intracardiac shunt detection, valve flow/valve area determinations, intracardiac pressure measurements, oximetry determination, cineangiocardiography, and the measurement and calculation of cardiac function indices. The technologist assists in all phases of catheterization procedure including insertion of the catheter, operation of various electronic instruments and calculation of hemodynamic data.

Position Accountabilities and Performance Criteria:

• 1. Actively participates in the orientation and training of new employees and students.
• 2. Demonstrates proficiency in complex clinical skills to include; IABP, stents, DCA, complex PTCA's, Alblations and Pacemakers.
• 3. Demonstrates proficiency in cardiac anatomy and physiology, correlating pressure wave forms and rhythm analysis.
• 4. Proficient in patient assessment, monitoring and sterile technique as required.
• 5. Assists in the maintenance and effective use of all equipment and supplies in the clinical areas.
• 6. Maintains patients’ confidential records, reports and files.
• 7. Member of department or hospital committee with documented participation of 75%.
• 8. Responds appropriately and timely to patients, physicians and other customers needs.
• 9. Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the entire life span
• 10. Provides four credit hours of in-services per year.
• 11. Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
• 12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education: 

High school graduate supplemented by coursework in science, anatomy and physiology.  Candidates must have

completed either a cardiovascular Technology program accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting body

(e.g. CAAHEP, ABHES, JRC-CVT, JRC-DMS) or a formalized on the job cardiac catheterization training program

consisting of at least 1,040 combined hours (6 months) of classroom and practical laboratory work.

Minimum Experience:  Two (2) years’ experience in a health related field.

Licensure Requirement: CPR required.
