Pharmacy & Purchased Services Program Manager

Full Time, 80 Hours per pay period, Day Shift

Position Summary: 

In conjunction with the supply chain and pharmacy informatics leadership, performs all functions necessary to plan, implement, lead, maintain, and manage the contracting, sourcing, and standardization activities across all acute care pharmacies and other support services within Covenant Health. Responsibilities include strategy development around key operational initiatives such as inventory management, 340b compliance, network collaboratives, Group Purchasing Organizations (GPO), and self-contracting opportunities. Participates as a non-clinical resource on committees as needed and directed. Serves as a primary leader and advisor to hospital leadership in matters related to pharmaceutical contracting, sourcing operations, purchased services, and value analysis.

• Ensures an efficient, highly effective, and outcome-driven pharmacy sourcing and value analysis operation.
• Develops, communicates, and implements policies and processes related to pharmacy and support services contracting, sourcing and value analysis as directed by senior leadership.
• Researches, develops, and implements strategy related to purchased services, pharmacy sourcing operations, contracting philosophy, and GPO or Network collaboratives.
• Plans, organizes, and leads the system’s value analysis function and standardization efforts for pharmaceuticals and purchased services.
• Accountable to direct the analysis and negotiation process for all system pharmacy and purchased service agreements. Includes the establishment of favorable terms and prices.
• Responsible for maintaining a single contracting methodology across the Health System.
• Responsible for providing accurate and timely reporting of data to administrative and executive leaders.
• Organizes, facilitates, and documents the efforts of the system’s pharmacy taskforce as related to the non-clinical aspects of standardization and value analysis initiatives.
• Responsible to determine opportunities, organize teams, coordinate evaluations, and implement conversions in a timely manner.
• Defines and implements integrated system solutions for contracting and reporting activities, vendor pricing downloads, contract compliance, 340b inventory management and compliance, etc.
• Responsible for the proper accountability of the 340b inventories and assuring compliance to regulations. Assures 340b compliance at all applicable facilities by conducting routine audits.
• Researches, develops, and implements strategy related to inventory management, including establishment of proper levels across all acute care pharmacies.
• Responsible for inventory replenishment and management for pharmaceuticals, including the development and conduct of physical/cycle count schedules. Accountable for the inventory accuracy, as well as all variances and adjustments.
• Develops and implements criteria for measurement of department performance.
• Participates in teams and serves on committees as requested, which may include travel to network and GPO work group sessions.
• Local travel is required.
• Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Minimum Education:            Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field.

Minimum Experience:          Five (5) years’ experience working within healthcare required. Supply chain and/or contract experience highly preferred. 

Licensure Requirements:      Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
