Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Revenue Process Manager, oversees all activities of daily operations and supervision of employees within the centralized corporate charge process for acute care facilities. Responsible for coordinating the charge process, audit and education of the Revenue Process Specialist. Monitors workflow and status to ensure charges are placed in a timely manner to prevent delays that affect the hospital’s performance. Establishes and monitors individual employee’s quality and quantity standards assuring these standards are consistently met. Ensures adherence to policies, procedures, and guidelines within the department.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day to day activities in the centralized charge department which includes planning, staffing, and maintenance of processes and tools.
  • Reviews physician and nursing documentation to determine charges for services by using standard definitions and applying regulatory guidelines for coding, charging, and billing.
  • Identifies areas of opportunity with physician and/or nursing documentation for compliant optimal department revenue as well as identifying areas of risk from a lack of documentation representing the services provided. Analyzes documentation for key elements to capture documentation deficiencies in order to provide the respective department leaders with the usable information to identify and improve documentation.
  • Serves as liaison from the charge process team with the business office and/or Health Information Management department for complex issues for claim resolution and that necessitate department process changes or education.
  • Maintains skills, knowledge, and ability to charge from all systems and for all facilities for the purpose of identifying and developing all education, mentoring, and training needed for the staff.
  • Establishes and monitors individual employees quality and quantity results. Assures the process, design, tracking and trending is working accurately and efficiently, and all standards are consistently met. Assists team leadership with correlating these results in performance evaluations.
  • Oversees and supports effective use and monitors the compliance of electronic tools used to determine the appropriate charges. Oversees the utilization of resources available, i.e. use of Covenant Health equipment and/or supplies.
  • Works closely with staff to identify process improvements and opportunities. Facilitates problem resolution and decisions when charging or documentation issues are identified.
  • Engaged participant in Revenue Process Leadership Team, attends meetings regularly, presents data and information at department meetings with staff, recognizes opportunities for projects to positively impact workflow, processes, outcomes, and improved department operations.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Education:   None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing an Associate's degree in a directly-related field from an accredited college or university.

 

Minimum Experience:    One (1) year of experience in supervision or level II role with charging, coding, or billing preferred.
