Professional Services:

Medical assistants work closely with our Family Practice physicians to complete necessary clinical and procedural tasks. These include coordinating patient visits, providing assistance to the physician during assessments/treatments, ensuring appropriate charges are entered, and completing necessary medical record documentation. The medical assistants are essential members of our Family Practice team.

Position Summary:

Provide mental health services to patients under the supervision of a physician preceptor, following established medical protocols. Provides psychiatric evaluations, psychotherapy, and medication management to patients; under such protocols and policies set by facility or required to meet regulations.

Weekend coverage for psych consults.

• Practices and maintains established facility and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards.
• Provides direct patient assessment/counseling, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required, and adjusts processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
• Supervision will be scheduled with a physician preceptor to review case formulation, treatment recommendations, and treatment protocols
• Obtains complete medical and psychiatric history of patient.
• Identifies health hazards in the patient’s environment as well as patient risk factors. Identifies and considers the cultural patterns, economic status and patient resources in plan of care.
• Initiates appropriate psychiatric treatment on the order of the attending physician.
• Analyzes objective and subjective data for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
• Assures treatment and/or plan of care is consistent with established protocols.
• Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records and maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc. Documents all pertinent information accurately, legibly, and in a timely manner.
• Refers patient to appropriate services, which exceed scope of practice of the practitioner.
• Provide health promotion counseling and develop patient teaching information.
• Serves as a resource person for other staff personnel.
• Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Minimum Education:

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Licensure Requirements:

Must have and maintain certification by American Nurses Association or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Must meet the state’s requirements as an Advanced Practice Nurse/ Nurse Practitioner (Certificate of Fitness from Board of Nursing, for writing prescriptions), and have DEA number. CPR required.
