Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Medical Unit

Full Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift 

 

 

 

This is a 33 bed, Complex Medical unit that cares for Pulmonary, Renal, GI, surgery and medical patients (everything except acute cardiac); ranging from patients on telemetry and various forms of oxygen delivery methods including stable tracheostomy patients (no ventilator patients) and hemodialysis  patients. The population on the unit is highly varied from self-care patients requiring a work-up on an inpatient unit to total care patients. A majority of our patients have at least 2 comorbidities. The average length of stay is 4 days, some are admitted for less than 24 hours and some will stay with us for 2+ weeks. You will experience, learn and grow in your clinical skills on this unit with an opportunity to create a nursing career path plan.

 

Position Summary: The LPN/LVN I will provide nursing care under supervision of a registered nurse, within an assigned unit.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates admission database and history, and in collaboration with the RN implements patient and family teaching and care needs.
  • Practices in compliance with all regulatory standards and adheres to all hospital policy and procedures in the performance of duties.
  • Performs and prioritizes nursing care tasks.
  • Accurately follows the nursing plan of care and pertinent medical orders in collaboration and under direction of RN.
  • Observes and reports nursing interventions and patient responses, and documents in a timely, concise and legible manner.
  • Recognizes, responds and reports changes in patient conditions to RN Team Leader.
  • Participates in unit specific quality assurance activities and patient care conferences as requested.
  • Demonstrates principles of infection control; collaborates with infection control nurse to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and personnel.
  • Assists in orienting new employees or students to unit routines.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

 

Minimum Experience: No prior experience as a LPN/LVN needed.

 

Licensure Requirement:Currently licensed by the Tennessee Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
