PerioperativeTechnician - Post Anastesia Care 

Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift


Position Summary

Provides supportive para-nursing functions in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Patient Holding Area.


  • Illustrates proper technique for positioning patients safely by displaying proper body mechanics
  • Assists in transporting surgical patients, transfers, emergencies or discharges.
  • Assist patient with handling and care of clothing and other personal property.
  • Demonstrates proper technique for surgical/procedural preps (clean or sterile).
  • Demonstrates proper procedure for gowning and gloving.
  • Assists with creation and maintenance of sterile field.
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respirations, BP and performs intake-output measurements.
  • Provides general care such as positioning, lifting or turning patients; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; ambulating patient; pre-operative supportive care; and application/removal of abdominal binder, sequential compression devices and anti-embolism stockings.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in providing for age-specific needs of population served.
  • Provides post-mortem care and assists in transporting bodies to the morgue.
  • Assists RN in treatment or procedures within scope of practice.
  • Reports any changes observed in condition or behavior of patients and unusual incidents to RN.
  • Performs clerical duties related to procedures such as admissions, discharge, transfer, and death.
  • Ensures STAT orders are brought to the attention of nursing personnel.
  • Transcribing physician’s orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Answers telephone and intercoms, relays and documents messages. Helps to ensure that follow-up to patients request is timely.
  • Assists physicians in obtaining reports from lab, radiology, etc.
  • Organizes patient charts in proper sequence. Labels and replenishes all necessary forms.
  • Assists in cleaning department to include removing all trash, linen and suctions liners.
  • Assists in cleaning and setting up equipment and reporting out of order equipment.
  • Assist in daily and weekly cleaning checklist.
  • Replace empty oxygen tanks.
  • Assist in equipment set up of patient’s room on floor.
  • Assists in orienting of new employees.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform competency skills of Peri Op Tech I or II.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.



Minimum Education: None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.  Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.


Minimum Experience: One (1) year of healthcare experience required. BLS required. CNA preferred. A lot of walking/ lifting required.
