For seriously ill patients, advanced medical and surgical care is provided at CMC including telemetry monitored beds and an intensive care unit. Additionally, Cumberland Medical Center offers an outpatient imaging center, same day surgery unit, cardiac and pulmonary rehab programs, a sleep disorder center, breast center, cancer center, and hyperbaric medicine and wound center.

About our Labor and Delivery Unit at Cumberland Medical Center:

How Scheduling Works:


We use self-scheduling in our Labor and Delivery Unit. We work 12-hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays, on a six-week schedule. Call is a requirement for all employees. Employees place schedule requests, and the schedule is balanced to coordinate needs.



Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse, Night Shift


  • Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit; coordinates care planning with other disciplines.
  • Correlates patient history and support systems within hospital care/nursing home care.
  • Assesses learning needs of patient and family.
  • Develops and initiates plan of care, involving patient and family.
  • Recommends interventions.
  • Evaluates plan of care.
  • Resolves problems regarding moderately complex issues without oversight or supervision.
  • Demonstrates willingness to precept employees/students as directed. Reviews clinical performance of preceptee with unit leader or clinical instructor.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education: Graduate of accredited school of nursing with diploma, ADN, BSN or MSN


Licensure Requirements:

  • Valid Tennessee RN license. 
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS & NRP preferred.
  • Must possess at least one (1) year of professional nursing experience.
  • Prefer Labor & Delivery and Nursery experience.
  • Must have ACLS and NRP within 16 weeks of hire.
  • Must have fetal monitoring (NiCHD - Basic) within 16 weeks of hire.
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring within 1 year.
