Fully accredited by the Joint Commission, Cumberland Medical Center is an acute care hospital offering all private patient rooms as well as specialized services not usually found in the rural medical system.

 

For seriously ill patients, advanced medical and surgical care is provided at CMC including telemetry monitored beds and an intensive care unit. Additionally, Cumberland Medical Center offers an outpatient imaging center, same day surgery unit, cardiac and pulmonary rehab programs, a sleep disorder center, breast center, cancer center, and hyperbaric medicine and wound center.

About our Intensive Care Unit at Cumberland Medical Center:

  • Twelve ICU beds
  • Typical RN-to-Patient ratio is 2:1, on occasion 3:1 with acuity considered

This is a fast-paced, high-intensity unit. You will work closely with other team members in the unit as you deliver the best care possible to our patients. Having a positive attitude, critical thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn are crucial to being a part of the ICU.

How Scheduling Works:

 

Schedules are 6 weeks in length. Each employee places a self-scheduling request, and the schedule is then balanced to reflect unit-specific needs.

 

Responsibilities

Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse

  • Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit; coordinates care planning with other disciplines.
  • Correlates patient history and support systems within hospital care/nursing home care.
  • Assesses learning needs of patient and family.
  • Develops and initiates plan of care, involving patient and family.
  • Recommends interventions.
  • Evaluates plan of care.
  • Resolves problems regarding moderately complex issues without oversight or supervision.
  • Demonstrates willingness to precept employees/students as directed. Reviews clinical performance of preceptee with unit leader or clinical instructor.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Supervises LPNs, Nursing Assistants, HUCs, Techs, and sitters.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: None specified; however must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

 

Licensure Requirement: Valid Tennessee RN license. Must be currently certified (or scheduled for certification, or recertification training, according to department guidelines) in life support program(s) specific to unit (BLS, ACLS, PALS).
