Position Summary:

Education is a critical component of Informatics and directly affects the success or failure of any new or modified IT driven solution. This position is responsible for teaching nurses, ancillary, and other healthcare professionals as scheduled about the effective and ethical uses of information technology, as well as informatics concepts and theories that are essential for optimal use of informatics solutions in clinical practice. The Clinical Practice Specialist – Clinical Informatics Educator provides service and support across the health system directed by the Corporate Clinical Practice Specialist Manager.



  • Develops, oversees, and directly provides clinical informatics education, primarily nursing content, and support for clinical applications, new users, upgrades, updates, and act as a liaison between IT and Covenant affiliates.
  • Develops and maintains course competencies for clinical applications. Responsible for inpatient nursing, emergency nursing and other system needs as identified.
  • Develops and maintains course evaluations and utilizes data gathered from evaluations along with demonstrated skills, to evaluate and measure effectiveness of curricula, learning tools, and methods.
  • Maintains class attendance training records of all clinical applications in relation to build and table maintenance of new access for log in and password.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all relevant clinical documentation systems.
  • Researches, develops, and implements, new educational technologies, integrating the solutions into the educational and practice environments.
  • Employs informatics principles, standards, and methodologies to establish and maintain patient confidentiality within legal and regulatory parameters.
  • Incorporates education factors related to privacy, security, and confidentiality in the use and handling of data, information, and knowledge sharing.
  • Executes implementation tasks and activities as assigned.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.



Minimum Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Education, or IT. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a Master’s degree in Nursing, Education, or Informatics.


Minimum Experience: 

Five (5) years clinical nursing experience. Prefer at least one (1) year of experience with PC, MS-Windows, and Covenant’s current clinical application.


Licensure Requirements:

Nursing applicants must have and maintain a valid RN license.
