Sterile Processing Technician I
Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift, Occasional On Call
Position Summary: Under the direction of the SPD Manager, Coordinator, and/or Lead Technician, the SPD Instrument Technician 1 will be responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments. The SPD Instrument technician 1 will operate processing equipment such as washer automation, washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, cart washer, sterilizers. The technician will be proficient in instrument decontamination and assembly and will be aware of the sterilization methods available and which method is appropriate in correlation with the devices that are to be processed. The SPD Instrument Technician 1 will have computer skills, as it is essential to interface with the SPD instrument tracking system.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Experience: Prefer prior Sterile Processing Department, Operating Room support and/or prior details-oriented assembly experience. Basic computer skills. Ability to use the SPM instrument tracking computerized system.
Strong reading comprehension skills.
Licensure Requirement: Certified Sterile Processing Technician desirable but will train. If hired after January 1, 2017, must take and pass an accepted Central Processing exam through either IAHCSMM (International Association for Healthcare Material Management) as a Certified Registered Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST) or through CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing Technicians) as a Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician (CSPDT) within 2 years of entry level employment in the position. Must complete and submit 10 hours of continuing education annually.
