Patient Care Assistant- Nephrology Unit
PRN/OCC, Shifts vary as needed between the hours of 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.
Nephrology Department (3 West): is a 17 bed telemetry unit serving a wide variety of medical patients. Our primary population consists of patients with acute or chronic renal failure, diabetes and cardiac issues. Our nurses receive special training in peritoneal dialysis and select cardiac drips. Our mission is to provide excellent patient centered care while in the hospital and prepare our patients and families for care after discharge. The nephrology staff includes RNs, LPNs, CNA/PCAs, and HUCs. Our physicians are a collaborative and supportive part of the team in Nephrology.
Position Summary: Functions as a direct patient caregiver performing tasks to assist registered nurses. Performs hands-on care, assistance with ADL’s and specified technical tasks for a group of patients under the supervision of the Team Leader.
Minimum Experience: Hospital experience preferred. Medical terminology a plus. Must be able to operate computer and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly, and perform basic arithmetic computation. Must have understanding and knowledge of patient care which may be appropriately delegated to nursing assistants.
Licensure Requirement: Nursing Assistant certification from state of Tennessee preferred. CPR required. Must successfully complete Covenant’s orientation and Nursing Assistant in-house training program before being permitted to work with patients.
