Orthopedic and Bariatric Surgical Unit (5 West): is a 26 bed unit serving a wide variety of medical patients. Our patient population consists of patients recovering from fractures and total knee, total hip, and total shoulder operations as well as patients recovering from gastric bypass and gastric sleeve procedures. This unit works closely with other professional disciplines to provide comprehensive care to post-operative Orthopedic and Bariatric surgical patients throughout their stay. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:5-6. Our mission is to provide excellent patient centered care while in the hospital and prepare our patients and families for care after discharge. The Orthopedic and Bariatric staff includes RNs, CNA/PCAs, and HUCs.
Position Summary: Functions as a direct patient caregiver performing tasks to assist registered nurses. Performs hands-on care, assistance with ADL’s and specified technical tasks for a group of patients under the supervision of the Team Leader.
Minimum Experience: Hospital experience preferred. Medical terminology a plus. Must be able to operate computer and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly, and perform basic arithmetic computation. Must have understanding and knowledge of patient care which may be appropriately delegated to nursing assistants. Must successfully complete Covenant’s orientation and Nursing Assistant in-house training program before being permitted to work with patients.
Licensure Requirement: Nursing Assistant certification from state of Tennessee preferred. CPR required.
