Clinical Nurse III, GI Lab- Endoscopy

 

Full Time, 72 hours per pay period, Day Shift

One call weekend (Friday eve to Monday morning) approximately every 6th weekend). One evening call per pay period and one holiday call per calendar year.

 

Parkwest Medical Center’s Endoscopy Lab is a dynamic energetic department with 5 procedural rooms. Procedures such as Bronchoscopy, Colonoscopy, EGD’s, ERCP and other procedures are performed in this area. Nurses participate in and contribute to the management of the Endoscopy Unit, all aspects of patient care, provide technical assistance during procedures, and maintenance of endoscopes and equipment used in endoscopic and non-endoscopic procedures.

 

  • Ensuring a high standard of nursing care to patients attending the Endoscopy Unit, working within hospital policies and procedures.
  • Providing technical assistance during diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopic procedures, ensuring safe working practice
  • Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the population served. 
  • Precepts new employees/students. Reviews clinical performance of preceptee with unit leader or clinical instructor. 
  • Maintaining timely and accurate nursing records and ensuring the confidentiality is respected. 
  • Administering drugs in accordance with established hospital policy and procedures. 
  • Working with minimal supervision during endoscopy procedures, admission and recovery of patients and other related procedures. 
  • Follow standards of infection prevention
  • Participate in the care and maintenance of endoscopes and other specialized equipment, ensuring the standards of decontamination at all times. 
  • Ensuring the safe discharge of all patients from the Endoscopy unit. 

 

Position Summary:  Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit, coordinates care planning with other disciplines.

 

Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

 

Minimum Experience:  Must possess at least (3) years professional nursing experience. GI or Med Surgical Experience preferred.  GI Certification preferred, but not required. Knowledge of GI diagnosis, treatment and health education. Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs. Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and attention to detail. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff and other health care professional. Must live within 30 minutes of the hospital.

 

Licensure Requirements:  Valid Tennessee RN license. Fire/security, infection control, and CPR inservices are required.
