Lead Sterile Processing Technician, Sterile Processing

Full-Time, 80 hours per pay period, Days



Position Summary:

Serves as shift lead technician. Under the direction of the SPD Coordinator and Manager will be responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments. The SPD Lead Technician will operate processing equipment such as washer automation, washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and cart washer, AERs and sterilizers. The Lead Technician will be proficient in instrument decontamination and assembly and will be aware of the sterilization methods available and which method is appropriate in correlation with the devices that are to be processed. They will have computer skills, as it is essential to interface with the SPD instrument tracking system. They must be proficient in surgical case picking as well as endoscopy reprocessing.


 Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.


Minimum Experience: Must have three (3) years of surgical instrument or instrument technician experience. .Knowledge of approximately 1500 surgical instruments and specialty surgical instruments sets required. Good oral and written communication skills. Aptitude for electronics helpful for trouble shooting preferred .Basic computer skills. Ability to interface with the SPM instrument tracking computerized system. Good problem solving and/or decision making skills. Ability to make independent decisions. Ability to react and perform under strict timelines and/or emergency situations. Must complete and submit 10 hours of continuing education annually.


Licensure Requirement: IAHCSMM (International Association for Healthcare Material Management) as a Certified Registered Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing Technicians) as a Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification is required.
